The Hekiganroku or Blue Cliff Record is a collection of 100 koans made in the 12th century by the Zen master Setcho with the aim of confounding the mind’s habits of reasoning and so leading to a deeper awareness beyond. John Gohorry’s poems offer a series of engagements with each of these challenges and together record a reflective journey of the imagination across the blue cliff, which perhaps will encourage others to do the same. This is John Gohorry’s second collection of poems dealing with koans to be published by Dark Age Press.

Peter Bennett, reviewing its predecessor, Forty Eight Gates (2010) in Other Poetry said,
“Forty-eight intensely imagined poems....A triumph.”
