My Best Cellar

My Best Cellar

£9.99

Wilf' Lunn first came to public notice in 1942 when he won first prize in a 'War Baby' competition, which he believes was because he was shaped like a bomb. Raised by deaf parents in a cellar in Rastrick, Yorkshire, as a baby Wilf' quickly learned that farting was better than crying for attracting their attention.

Reared on 'potted nanny', 'marrowfat pea muffs' and 'corporation pop', and in fear of the Brook Street Gang - who pushed drinking straws up frog's bums to inflate them like balloons - Wilf' survived (whilst marvelling at the adhesive power of dried snot) to fulfil his childhood ambition of having a beard.

Many years later, the film star James Mason, advised Wilf' to write about his bizarre life. This is part of it…up to the age of eleven!

Zoo Vet

Zoo Vet

£9.99

Author: Matt Brash
Humorous, light hearted mixture of tales and autobiographical memories of Matt Brash's work, both at Flamingo Land Zoo and in general practice. It describes how he got into filming for ITV, and the relationships he has forged with both the camera and the people behind the camera.

Matt Brash is the star of the Yorkshire TV series Zoo Vet at Large.

"Good day in the office dear?" is a particularly loaded question when asked of Matt Brash. A typical 'day in the office' could include escaping from angry, disorientated bears, dodging poo hurled by obstinate, grumpy chimpanzees and avoiding massive loss of blood at the hands (well, teeth) of vindictive hamsters. Lives and limbs, animals' and Matt's, are always at risk.
This is an enlightening and colourful journey through Matt's life and work with weird and wonderful exotic wild animals, from tarantulas to tapirs, birds to bears, madams to motorbikers.

Famine in the West

Famine in the West

£7.95

Author: John Gossop & Leanne Wilcox

'Compelling, providing us with a robust and authoritative antidote to the dangerously irrelevant 'business as usual' bullshit that dominates so much of today's debate about the future of farming'
Jonathon Porritt, Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission
The U.S. and Europe are becoming dependent for their food supplies on unreliable countries like Russia, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Iran, just as surely as if the food were grown in those countries. Without imported oil and natural gas, farming and the food industry in the West cannot now function. Worse still, these supplies are finite.
'impressive' and 'thoroughly researched with obvious rigour'

Revisiting Electromagnetic Phenomena

Revisiting Electromagnetic Phenomena

£39.50

Author: John Purssell Ballad

John takes us on a long journey, starting with Relativistic Optics, where he shows that the Ritz hypothesis (that light propagates through space with constant velocity c with respect to that of the source at the instant of emission) forms an alternative explanation of the various experiments that make up this branch of Physics.

He then goes on to introduce the completely new concept of the "Radiated Electrical Property", which he shows gives rise to the main laws of Electromagnetism, whilst at the same time clarifying the origins of electromagnetic induction.

After examining motion under a Central Force, using the Hydrogen atom model as an example, he devotes a large part of the second half of the book to reviewing sources of EM radiation throughout the entire spectrum, and then applies the REP hypothesis to worked examples as part of a discussion of the mechanics of emission.

In conclusion he suggests that a link may exist between Electromagnetism and Gravitational Attraction.

John provides simple worked examples to illustrate his arguments and uses a lot of equations, but the maths are not that difficult - vectors and matrices are avoided. However, a firm grasp of both calculus and trigonometry would be beneficial to the reader.

The ideas presented in this text are clearly at variance with conventional wisdom and should not only stimulate a lively debate, but may have significant implications for the interpretation of present-day measurements and observations. John declares that he has no intention per se to confront traditional or established theory, merely to present the results of his study for consideration

Cross Cut

Cross Cut

£8.99

Author: Lee Ellis

"All darkness now. Silence, then the sounds again, scratching, voices. Someone is close, very close as if they're breaking through to him."

Where is Bernard Weston? Is he dead or alive? How is his disappearance connected to the campaign to reopen the brooding and abandoned Cross Cut canal?

For Detective Inspector Jenner a routine missing person enquiry quickly turns into something more sinister with the present dislocated against the turbulent background of 1840s Nottingham. Trusting his instincts as much to reason and logic and teaming up with Ettie Rodway with her psychic insight, he's forced to adopt unconventional methods. Combining their skills of intuition and deduction produces a powerful partnership, but this is stretched to breaking point as they try to avert disaster.

Looming ominously throughout this tense thriller is the foreboding atmosphere of the canal with its shrouded secrets and the fearful power of its tunnel to reach across time.

Can Jenner trust his gut feelings and take a path he's reluctant to go down? How much can Ettie risk her own safety to help him? Can they unravel the crime only in the present or must they step into the past?
