Stories from tall ships in the 1800’s lead the way in this anthology of Ancestral Tales. Told in the 1930’s and 1940’s to two young children, they have not been aired for almost 70 years. The ships referred to have been found in Lloyds Register of Shipping and more information about them can be found on the Internet.

The stories which follow them were written to record what life was like in the twentieth century by four ‘ordinary’ people with different writing styles. They are fascinating life stories told by two octogenarians, a nonagenarian and a family history researcher, all of whom had very different lives and amazingly remarkable memories. One was a staunch Catholic who was awarded a Benemerenti Medal by the Pope, one was an Army farrier and blacksmith, one was a barmaid in a Public house in York and one is currently involved in oral history.

The final section concludes with some true memoirs in the life of the compiler. All the stories are lively and entertaining for readers’ enjoyment.
